Reviews of whatever I feel like reviewing.
It's as simple as this: Go rent The Machinist.
I felt the movie was effective in mood, but little else. Bale's weight loss was more disturbing on a non-diegetic level than in regards to his fictional character--though I was impressed. The ending simply wasn't original, and thus the payoff to all the intrigue and paranoia that was set up just didn't do it for me. It's a competent film, but feels like more effort was put into its production than into its script.
I'm bias. Christian Bale can do no wrong in these eyes.
He didn't miss a beat in that movie. Christian Bale in American Psycho gave a flawless performance. I'm looking forward to Batman Begins with embarrassing excitement.
